Privacy Policy

Last updated: 26 September 2026

This page explains what personal data SoundSawt processes, why, for how long, who receives it, and how to exercise your rights (GDPR, art. 13).

1. Who is responsible

Controller: SoundSawt project.

Contact for any privacy question or request: contact@soundsawt.com. This public contact does not publish a private individual’s postal address.

2. What we process, why, and on what basis

DataPurposeLegal basisKept
Anonymous identifier (random, generated in your browser)Link your conversions to your browser so you see your history; abuse preventionContract (the service you asked for); legitimate interest (security)Until you clear it or delete your history
Conversion requests: video URL, format, chosen passage, title / channel / thumbnail / duration, status, dates (created, downloaded)Perform the conversion; show your Library and historyContract12 months, then deleted automatically — or earlier if you delete your history
The description, category and age rating of the link you search for, paste or convert, read from the source platformAutomated check that the content fits what SoundSawt is for (see “What SoundSawt is” above), and, separately, the length limitsLegitimate interestNot stored — read again each time, used only for that check
E-mail address and the topic you care about most — only if you join the Pro waiting listTell you once when Pro is availableConsent (you can withdraw it at any time)Until you are notified, at most 12 months — or until you remove it yourself
Your playlists (titles you added, their order, the name you gave) — only if you are signed in; otherwise they stay on your deviceKeep your playlists on all your devicesContract (the account you asked for)Until you delete a playlist or your account
E-mail address, an account identifier and your sign-in sessions — only if you create an accountSend you the sign-in link (no password), keep your history on all your devices, apply your plan (playlist size, monthly downloads)Contract (the account you asked for)Until you delete your account (from the Account page) — your history is deleted with it
Anonymous daily counters of what is used (for example how many playlists were created, or how many times a link to the Pro page was opened): no identifier, no IP address, no cookie, nothing that says who did itFind out what is used and whether Pro is worth buildingLegitimate interest (no personal data)Daily totals, kept
Page views of the public pages only (home, guides, support and legal pages), counted by Umami Cloud (EU region): page address without any parameter, the site you came from (for example a search engine), browser, system and screen type, language and country, and a visitor identifier computed on their side that is not stored in your browser. No cookie. Nothing is counted on video pages, your Library, playlists or account, and nothing if your browser sends “Do Not Track”Find out whether the public pages bring people to the tool, without profiling anyoneLegitimate interestAccording to Umami Cloud’s retention policy
Converted filesDeliver the file to youContractDeleted right after download, or after a few minutes
Technical data (IP address, browser type, request time) in server logs of our hosting providersOperate and secure the service, prevent abuseLegitimate interestAccording to each provider’s logging policy (short)

We use no advertising and no tracking cookie, we do not profile you and we do not sell data. The only audience measurement is the one described above, limited to the public pages. If advertising or other analytics are introduced later, this policy will be updated first and, where required, we will ask for your consent.

3. What happens in your browser

SoundSawt sets no cookies of its own. It stores a few items in your browser (see the Cookies & storage page) that are necessary to provide what you ask for — for example your history, your preferences and the audio files you keep in your library. This storage stays on your device.

Some parts of the site load resources directly from Google, which therefore receives your IP address and technical data: the YouTube Data API (search, video details), video thumbnails, and the YouTube player on video pages (privacy-enhanced mode, but Google may still set cookies or collect data when a video plays). See Google’s privacy policy. Web fonts are served from our own domain: your browser does not contact Google for them.

The public pages (home, guides, support and legal pages) also load a small audience-measurement script from Umami Cloud (cloud.umami.is, which then reports to gateway.umami.is), so Umami receives the technical data of that request, including your IP address; according to its documentation it does not store it. The script does not run on the other pages, and it does nothing if your browser sends “Do Not Track”.

4. Who receives your data

  • Supabase (database, file storage, and — if you create an account — sign-in and the delivery of the sign-in e-mail) — processor.
  • GitHub, Inc. (static hosting of the website through GitHub Pages) — processor.
  • OVH (server in France that runs the converter) — processor.
  • Cloudflare (network relay used by the converter to reach video platforms; it does not receive your identity) — processor.
  • Google (YouTube API, player, thumbnails) — independent controller for what it collects from your browser.
  • Umami Software, Inc. (Umami Cloud, EU region: audience measurement on the public pages, no cookie) — processor.
  • The platform behind the “Support SoundSawt” link, if you choose to follow it — independent controller; nothing is sent to it before you tap.

We do not share your data with anyone else, except where the law requires it.

5. Transfers outside the European Economic Area

Some providers are based in, or may process data in, the United States or other countries. Where that is the case, the transfer relies on an adequacy decision (such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework) or on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to the processing of your data, and the right to data portability. You can delete your conversion history yourself, at any time, from the Library page (“Delete my history”), and delete your account (and the history attached to it) yourself from the Account page, and remove your e-mail from the Pro waiting list on the Pro page. For anything else, write to us; we answer within one month.

You may also lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority — in France, the CNIL (cnil.fr).

7. Children

SoundSawt is not aimed at children under 15 (or the age of digital consent in your country). Do not use it without a parent’s consent below that age.

8. Security and changes

Data is transmitted over HTTPS, access to the back end is restricted and files are short-lived. We may update this policy; the date above shows the latest version.
